Fact: Black Widow and Captain America have one of the best relationships in the MCU.

These two original Avengers are always relevant in the MCU, even if they’re technically gone in the post-Endgame world. Black Widow is finally getting her due credit with her upcoming solo movie, and Captain America’s legacy lives on in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

We love them together, though it’s a bit difficult to define what kind of relationship Natasha Romanoff and Steve Rogers have.

Steve even tells Bruce Banner in Avengers: Age of Ultron that he’s seen Natasha flirt. And given their dynamic in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, he’s not wrong! Scarlett Johansson, who plays Black Widow, has attributed their effortless chemistry to her longtime friendship with Chris Evans, who plays Cap.

Whether you’re a diehard Romanoger shipper or someone who sees the dynamic duo as loyal buddies, it’s clear that these two OG Avengers share a special bond. Let’s celebrate this beautiful relationship by revisiting its best moments in the MCU.

1.

When Captain America and Black Widow first meet and she asks him if he’s signed Agent Coulson’s Captain America cards yet.

Marvel / Via giphy.com

It’s the start of a beautiful friendship! The pair first meet in Avengers, and this moment sets the tone for their playful dynamic.

2.

When Black Widow tells Captain America that Loki and Thor are basically gods, and he replies that he only knows one God, who probably doesn’t dress like the Asgardian royals.

He’s too pure.

3.

When Captain America gives Black Widow a boost with his shield.

Well, she needs to get to the Chitauri ship somehow, right? Even though they don’t know each other very well in Avengers, it’s clear that they make great fighting partners!

4.

When Black Widow asks Sam Wilson and Cap where the Smithsonian is because she’s picking up a fossil…

Black Widow asks Sam and Cap where the Smithsonian is

Marvel

The fossil being…Cap.

5.

When Black Widow tries to make small talk with Cap during their mission in Captain America: Winter Soldier.

Black Widow asks Cap if he did anything on Saturday night and he deadpans that all of his barbershop quartet are dead

Marvel

She also tries to get him back into the dating scene throughout the movie! A devoted wingwoman!

6.

When Black Widow and Captain America go undercover at the mall in Winter Soldier.

They’re just regular schmegular kids in hoodies and skinny jeans trying to access a thumb drive with super secret files at the Apple Store.

7.

THE BLACK WIDOW AND CAPTAIN AMERICA KISS.

Romanogers, assemble! Black Widow decides that they have to kiss pronto because she sees the S.T.R.I.K.E. guys and wants to steer clear of them. According to her, “Public displays of affection make people very uncomfortable.” Logic!

8.

When Black Widow asks Cap if he’s still uncomfortable after their kiss.

Steve tells Natasha that comfortable isn't the word he'd use

Marvel

Uncomfortable isn’t the word he was thinking of, so I wonder what word actually popped up in his mind…

9.

When Natasha asks Steve how he learned to steal a car.

Marvel / Via rebloggy.com

Steve replies that he learned in Nazi Germany. He *also* clarifies that they’re borrowing, so she should put her feet off the dash. Okay, Dad.

10.

When Natasha clears the air and asks Steve how long it’s been since he last kissed someone…

Natasha asks Steve if it was his first kiss since 1945

Marvel

“It was not my first kiss since 1945. I’m 95; I’m not dead.”

11.

When Cap tells Black Widow he wants her to be a friend.

Captain America tells Black Widow that he wants her to be a friend and she tells him that he might be in the wrong business

Marvel

Friendship is the best ship…right? Anyway, it just goes to show how their dynamic can go from dry and witty to serious and emotional in a snap.

12.

When Natasha makes a pop culture reference to WarGames in the secret S.H.I.E.L.D. bunker and tries to explain it to Steve…

Marvel / Via tumbex.com

She just wants to be helpful because he was in the ice for *checks notes* roughly 70 years! He understands the reference, though.

13.

When Natasha (platonically?) kisses Steve at the end of Winter Soldier.

Just a little innocent peck on the cheek before she tells him to be careful.

14.

When Natasha teases Steve about his dislike for cursing in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Marvel

Marvel ships Bruce and Natasha in The Age of Ultron, but Steve and Natasha’s playful chemistry reigns supreme, even in their very limited screen time together in this movie.

15.

When Natasha drops by Peggy Carter’s funeral because she didn’t want Steve to be alone.

I’m not crying, you’re crying.

16.

When Black Widow lets Cap go free the time the Avengers battle it out between each other.

Natasha sets Steve free

Marvel

While Natasha technically helps Tony in Captain America: Civil War, she decides to let Steve and Bucky go. Maybe it has to do with her ideals about the whole Sokovia Accords situation, but maybe it also has to do with her loyalty to Cap!

17.

When Black Widow comes to Cap’s side after Thanos’ snap in Infinity War.

Black Widow by Cap's side after the Thanos snap

Marvel

They don’t exchange too many moments in this packed film, but they’re clearly battle partners who share a bond.

18.

When Steve tries to cheer Natasha up in Endgame, and she threatens to hit him in the head with a peanut butter sandwich.

Natasha tells Steve that she'll hit him in the head with a peanut butter sandwich

Marvel

They’re five years into Thanos’ apocalypse, but they’ve still got each other.

19.

And finally, when Nat and Cap have this cute little exchange before they go back in time in Endgame.

Black Widow says see you in a minute

Marvel

But, of course, she did not see him in a minute because she ends up sacrificing herself for the Soul Stone. So, this moment is actually a lot more heartbreaking in retrospect.
