I got over a thousand mails and gift cards in my mail since this week, all wishing me a happy thanksgiving. I also sent out many gifts to friends and family to wish them a happy thanksgiving.

if you are not an American or Canadian, you may find it difficult to understand what Thanksgiving is all about. It’s more than the “turkey carving “ritual you have in mind!
While this Thanksgiving is a time for family and friendship, it should also be a time to be thankful for America and how generous it has been to its people. The origins of American Thanksgiving are worthy or reflection in this regard. In September 1620, a small ship called the Mayflower left Plymouth, England, carrying 102 passengers. After a treacherous and uncomfortable 66-day crossing, they arrived in the New World eventually establishing a village at Plymouth. They suffered fromexposure, scurvy and outbreaks of contagious disease. Only half lived to seetheir first New England spring.Taught by a local Native American, the Pilgrims learned how to cultivate corn, extract sap from maple trees, catch fish in the rivers and avoid poisonous plants. They went on to forge an alliance with the Wampanoag, a local tribe, which would endure for more than 50 years. In November, after the Pilgrims’ first corn harvest proved successful, they organized a celebratory feast and invited a group of the fledgling colony’s Native American allies.

Thanksgiving has been celebrated nationallyon and off since 1789, after a proclamation by George Washington. It has been celebrated as a federal holiday every year since 1863, when, during the American Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national day of “Thanksgiving and Praise toour beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens,” to be celebrated on the last Thursday in November.Together with hristmas and the New Year, Thanksgiving is a part of the broader holiday season. The event that Americans commonly call the”First Thanksgiving” was celebrated by the Pilgrims after their first harvest in theNew Worldin 1621.This feast lasted three days, and—as accounted by attendee Edward Winslow—it was attended by 90 Native Americans and 53 Pilgrims. The New English colonists were accustomed to regularly celebrating “thanksgivings”—days of prayer thanking God for blessings such as military victory or the end of a drought.
So dear, now that you have an idea what Thanksgiving is,why not share the love with someone today? Make somebody feel special today, show them that you care.
Show how really thankful you are!
